Welcome to Graham Fit Personal Training. I'm Graham Kavanagh, and help busy professionals to get fitter, lighter and more toned. Your time and place, one to one and personalised.

So, what was my background? Fitness training began for me in Thai boxing, in my teen years. Over the years there became a need for fitness sessions to fit around busy routines..... hence the start of Graham Fit Personal Training. As well as being a fully qualified personal trainer (with nutrition) and exercise referral instructor, I'm also a level four specialist exercise instructor in the field of managing low back pain.
What is my interest in back pain? The back is central to everything we do, in exercise and daily living. Looking after our backs is therefore essential. Low back pain is widespread. Many people don't know where to turn and look for solutions that do not "tackle" the issue properly.

EXERCISE SESSIONS FOR LOW BACK PAIN. WHAT IS INVOLVED?
So how does exercise improve low back pain? What exactly is involved? Exercise
programming is now the recommended pathway for back pain as oppose to bedrest.
Pain is commonly caused by weak muscles - so exercise builds muscular strength and core stability to support the spine. Muscular imbalances can happen due to loss of functional ability, and compensatory movements in pain avoidance often occur..... as one example.
The aim of exercise for improving low back pain is to regain functional ability to improve your activities of daily living. So how does this work? Each individual case of low back pain is different..... with varying levels of pain, causes and aggravating factors.
The first step is a consultation. Here we discuss your condition and go through a screening process and gather information regarding lifestyle too. Low back pain is tackled with exercise and applying simple lifestyle strategies.
The next step is your first session. This involves a physical assessment, working within the parameters of your current ability. The aim is to eventually free restrictions, re-balance muscles and re-educate movement.
How quick will low back pain take to see improvements? A lot depends on adherence to a program of exercise, and maintaining exercise longer term. Remaining active keeps muscles strong which in most cases is what is required to reduce pain.
